Guide to Visiting a New Mum

Mother baby guide to visiting a new mum

Visiting a new mum can be a wonderful way to show support and care during this special time. Here are a few tips to keep in the back of your mind before visiting a new mum:

⏰️ Plan Ahead
Check in with her to find out a convenient time for your visit. Keep in mind that she may be tired or busy caring for her baby, so be flexible with timing.

🍽️ Pick a Chore
It’s hard to ask for help in the newborn bubble, so just pick a chore - laundry, stack the dishwasher, tidy up the toddler’s toy area. Don’t make a big deal of it, just do it.

🫶🏾 Respect Boundaries
Understand that she may be tired, overwhelmed, or in need of rest. Respect her boundaries and be mindful of the length of your visit, max 40 minutes. Keep the focus on her and the baby.

🍜 Bring a Meal
Bring something nutritious and wholesome. A meal that can be reheated quickly in the oven and feed the whole family. If cooking isn’t your jam, a meal delivery voucher is you go-to gift

👂🏼Listen, like, really listen
Be a good listener and offer emotional support. Let her share her thoughts and feelings without judgment. Sometimes a listening ear can be the most valuable gift you can offer.

👶🏽 Hold the Baby, but...
Only when given permission. Then offer to snuggle while she has a nap, shower, walk around the block or whatever she needs to Fill her Cup.
